TAGteach Or How Positive Reinforcement Is Not Only for Animals

SUNDAY, APRIL 9, 1:00-1:45PM
TRACK: SHELTERING FOR CHANGE

SPEAKER: Patrice Robert, MCP, Director, Animal Care Services, SPCA Montreal

In the shelter world, we are more and more aware of the benefits of positive reinforcement for the welfare of animals. But we are less aware that the same positive reinforcement can be used for better training, better communication and an overall better day-to-day life for all the humans that work with the animals. Based on the science of learning and neurobiology, the TAGteach approach is actually used by SPCA Montreal to better train the new employees and to motivate and enhance the skill of animal welfare personnel. TAGteach has proven to be proficient in many fields such as athleticism, business, orthopedic surgeons and many more.

Three Key Learnings:
1. Streamline and improve the training process.
2. The data proves it’s useful across many fields outside animal welfare.
3. Understanding the benefits positive reinforcement has on people.

SPEAKER BIO
Since 1992, Patrice has worked mainly in the dog training field but also has some experience with wild cats, wolves, a falcon and even in the rehab of a monkey. Always a strong believer in the power of positive reinforcement, he learned in 2007 how to efficiently apply to people what he knew to be the best way of teaching animals with TAGteach. Since then, positive reinforcement is a part of every aspect of his life.
